Title: Wakan Nenrekisen (Japanese and Chinese Yearly Calendar), 1849. A Yearly Almanac Complete with Edo Events, Astronomical and Divination Charts, Emperor Reigns, and Maps of Japan and China
Publisher:
Tokyo
Condition: Very Good

A Late Edo Period, mid 19th century edition of the Wakan Nenrekisen, also known as the Japanese and Chinese Yearly Calendar.

A rather diminutive, but densely filled book, the work is a yearly almanac, compiling historical and calendar information for Japan and China, including a list of events for Edo throughout the year, brief reigns and information on Japan’s successive emperors and shoguns, and more. There is considerable focus on auspicious and unlucky days, with several astronomy star charts, and even a large divination diagram. There is also a reduced format edition of the Daisei Yochi Zenzu Dai Nihonzu, depicting maps of both Qing Dynasty China and Japan.

One volume in orihon format (15.8 x 6.5 cm), 48 leaves

This volume is in very good shape, with some wear and old staining to the covers. There is virtually no foxing or staining throughout.
