A Late Edo Period, early 19th century manuscript sketchbook, very roughly translated as Tōryū Shin Hinagata, or New Toryu Model, containing beautiful ink drawings of animals and mythical beasts. There are dozens of individual creatures, from cats and dogs to rabbits and bears, beasts of burden and more, and quite a few depictions of mythical creatures such as grand dragons, guardian beasts, qilins, and more. Quite a few utilize skilled ink wash techniques.
One manuscript sketchbook in folio (27.6 x 20 cm), 17 leaves
This manuscript is in very good shape, with some rubbing and wear and old staining to the covers. Most of the page corners are dogeared, and there is scattered soiling and staining throughout.
