A complete set of Charles Dickens’ Christmas Books, comprising of two first editions, and three early, but later states. A Christmas Carol is the Fourteenth Edition, with four hand-colored plates. The Chimes is a thirteenth edition, with 13 illustrations, including the frontispiece and title. The Cricket on the Hearth is a twenty-second edition, with 14 illustrations including the frontispiece and title. The Battle of Life is a first edition, with 13 illustrations including the frontispiece and title, and The Haunted Man and the Ghost’s Bargain is a first edition, with 17 illustrations including the frontispiece and title.

All five volumes are still present in the original red blind-stamped cloth, with gilt designs to the front covers and spines.

The volumes bear a provenance stamp of the W.H. Smith & Son Library, as well as a 19th century ownership inscription.

These volumes are in very good to good shape, with minor wear and staining to the bindings, with chipping to the top of the head and foot of the spines. The Haunted Man is suffering more wear to the spine, with cloth peeling away. There is some foxing and soiling throughout, with browning to the margins.
