Condition: Very Good
An early 20th century of Titus Livus’ monumental History of Rome and the Roman People, edited by Lucas Panaetius, and containing forewords by Ulrich von Hutten and Erasmus von Rotterdam from the Mainz edition of 1518.
This edition has been beautifully illustrated with fine woodcut illustrations by Zoan Andrea. The first numbered leaf is beautifully illustrated with border woodcuts displaying various scenes from Roman History, and a large woodcut in the center with the title ““Roma caput mundi”. There are numerous, large, detailed woodcut initials throughout.
Leaves 237-240 are lacking, though bizarrely, contemporary duplicate leaves of 229-232 are present, where the lacking leaves would be. Two text woodcuts are also lacking.
One vellum bound volume in folio, (70)+291 of 295 leaves
This volume is in very good shape, with minor rubbing and wear to the binding. The title page has some browning and general staining, and with a small portion missing to the lower gutters. The first 6 leaves have been affecting by worming and finger staining, with small missing portions to the upper margins. There is a small damp stain to the upper right corner, that becomes more prominent to the last section of leaves. Leaves 148-161 are bound out of place. There is minor browning and soiling throughout.
