Title: Sermones in Prophetas, Two Leaf Bifolio from an Unidentified Latin Sermon Text on Isaiah 26, 1-3, Late 12th Century. Manuscript on Parchment
Condition: Very Good
A late 12th century two leaf bifolio from an unidentified Latin sermon text on Isaiah 26, 1-3, produced during the second half of the 12th century, Sermones in Prophetas. The manuscript is written in an early Gothic textualis miniscule script, in a black ink, and bearing two initials. There are two charming, contemporary doodles: One being of the scribe himself, making a small grimace, and a monk’s face.
This manuscript bears the provenance of having been acquired by Maggs Brothers in 1965, and later ending up in the ownership of Marvin L. Colker, later sold in the London collection at Christies.
These leaves are written in a 2 column and 43-line format.
Two leaves on parchment, 22.4 x 14.3 cm
This manuscript is in very good shape, with all eight columns of text almost completely preserved, with only slight loss of text to the outer columns. There is minor staining, primarily affecting the inner margins.
