Author: Dante Alighieri

I promised a Hell of a deal today, so here's some early Dante for you!
Up for grabs today is a mid-18th century edition of Dante’s Divine Comedy, his famed poetical narrative, originally written in the early 14th century, containing the famous commentary by Pompeo Venturi. The engraved portrait of Dante is lacking. There is a full-page engraving displaying the seven levels of Hell.
After the introduction, two biographies of Dante and Petrarch follow, and there is also an intriguing catalog including in chronological order, many of the editions of the Divine Comedy starting from 1472. There are two bookplates for that of one G. Strode, Esquire, and Whitcomb Library.
Three vellum bound volumes in octavo, XL+317; 342; 375 pages
These volumes are in very good shape, with minor rubbing and old staining to the bindings. There is minor foxing throughout, heavier to several pages.
