A scarce early 16th century edition of Auvergne’s Commentaries on the Epistles and Gospels: throughout the whole year.
Originally published in 1437, the work was published in more than one hundred editions across Europe between 1473 and 1500.
A French theologian and philosopher, he served as Bishop of Paris from 1228 until his death and was one of the first western European philosophers to engage with and comment extensively upon Aristotelian and Islamic philosophy.
This work is printed throughout in a gothic font, with detailed initials. There are two large woodcut titles, and over 100 in-text woodcuts throughout, all by Urs Graf, with his monogram seen on the title woodcut.
This copy has been annotated by several hands, including one near-contemporary hand, with some scripts in Latin and another unidentified language.

Leaves 11-14, 76, 84-91, and the second repeated title page are lacking (Leaf Aa). Leaf 81 has been misbound, being in place where leaf 84 would be.
One vellum bound volume in small quarto, (8)+173 of 186+(4)+39+(1) leaves
This volume is in good shape, with minimal rubbing or wear to the newer binding. Leaves 136-138 were torn and restored at some point, with some text and imagery lacking where the blank paper has restored the leaves. There are a considerable number of careful restorations throughout where tears were. There is some foxing, staining, and scattered worming throughout.
