A late 17th century edition of Hugo’s famous emblematic work, Pia Desideria, comprised of 3 books. The books are the Groans of the Penitent Soul, the Vows of the Holy Soul, and the Sigh of a Lover's Soul.

Born in Brussels, Hugo studied philosophy and theology at the University of Louvain, sadly dying of plague in 1629 at Rheinsberg. His legacy was publishing one of the most famous emblem books of the 17th century.

There are 45 numbered leaves of full-page engravings.

One volume in 32mo, (16)+416 pages

On note of condition, this volume is in fair shape, with rubbing and wear to the binding, with stress to the hinges, and the front board just hanging on by several threads. There is light staining throughout.
