Condition: Very Good
A third edition copy of Ovid’s Heroides by Ludovicus Britannicus in Brescia previously published there in 1533 and 1538. Otherwise known as the Letters of Heroines, the Heroides is a collection of fifteen epistolary poems composed by Ovid in Latin elegiac couplets. The poems have been presented as though they were written by a selection of aggrieved heroines of Greek and Roman mythology in address to their heroic lovers who in some way mistreated, neglected, or abandoned them.
There are three in-text woodcuts present, with some woodcut initials throughout.
One volume in small quarto, (8)+604 (of 602) pages
One note of condition, this volume is in very good shape, with virtually no wear to the modern boards. The title page bears signs of restoration work, with little to no foxing throughout, though there are various parts of the book which are toned in a very inconsistent fashion.
