A mid 17th century edition of the complete Surgical works of Hieronymus Fabricius, divided into two parts: the first containing the surgical Pentateuch; the other, all the manual operations performed on the human body. There are several woodcuts of various surgical tools and implements.
A pioneering anatomist and surgeon, Fabricius was also known in medical science as "The Father of Embryology”. In 1594 he revolutionized the teaching of anatomy when he designed the first permanent theater for public anatomical dissections. He was also known to have quite a few students who would later go on to become famed anatomists, physicians, and more, among which included Julius Casserius, William Harvey, Adriaan van den Spiegel, and more.
Fabricius was also the first to rediscover the membranous folds, after Charles Estienne initially in 1545. In general, Fabricius contributed much to the field of surgery.

This volume is in good shape, with heavy rubbing and wear to the binding, and leather lacking in points. There is foxing and soiling throughout.
