Condition: Very Good

A Late Edo to Meiji Period, mid to late 19th century edition of the Nijūshikō E Chāo Zen, also known as The Complete Illustrated Edition of the Twenty-Four Filial Exemplars.

As the title would entail, it is a condensed version of the original classic text of Confucian filial piety written by Guo Jujing during the Yuan Dynasty (1260–1368), on the concept of filial piety, and encompassing 24 stories and 24 individuals. Each tale is beautifully represented with a woodblock illustration, copied after the earlier Edo editions.

One volume in octavo (18.2 x 12.2 cm), 35 leaves

This volume is in very good shape, with minor rubbing and wear to the covers. There is minor tears to the endpapers, and there is virtually no foxing or staining throughout.
