A charming late 18th century German manuscript book of prayer, entitled Morning Prayers, written in 1782.
The prayer manuscript contains a calendar of saints for the entire year, supported with brief biographical information.
The text is written in a flowing hand, using black ink, in Kurrent script, bearing elaborate headers with initials of tremendous size, many of which vary in red and green ink, written in a Fraktur script. There are numerous, large, ornate initials throughout, a few illustrations in the form of vignettes, and several multi-colored decorative subtitles.
There is a detailed inscription from one pastor Balzer Tilgner, going as such: "My friend! I know that you have a fair supply of prayer books, and I would not have published this book if I had not had a little foretaste that you would also like to have something written about various devotions and prayers for her.”
The last two leaves of the index are lacking.

This manuscript is in very good shape, with minor rubbing and wear to the binding. The book block was trimmed a little at the top when it was rebound, with some page numbering loss near the end. There is finger staining throughout, with old fire damage affecting pages 223-226 and 261-270, with some text loss. There is some dampstaining from page 520 onwards.
