A late 12th to early 13th century two leaf bifolio from a Latin Bible, produced by a Parisian workshop. The text is that from Chronicles and Kings, with the Glossa Ordinaria, with more glossing than there is main biblical text.
This leaf is written on vellum in black ink, with an early Gothic minuscule bookhand, and a very early Gothic textura, both leaning towards Proto-Gothic, in two columns from both the front and back side.
This bifolio fragment was once used as binder’s waste, used as a cover to a volume.
The main text of the manuscript is written in a two-column, 22-line format, while the glosses are written in a 40-line format.
Two leaves on parchment, 32.3 x 19.6; 33.5 x 21.8 cm
These leaves are in very good shape, with some rubbing and wear to the parchment, and several small wormholes, with several letters of text obscured. There is a small, closed tear to the inner margin of the second leaf. A few words of text are faded to the verso of the
