Title: Livre de Premiere Communion. Modern Illuminated Manuscript on Vellum, 1885
Author: Commissioned by Countess Martin du Nord
Condition: Very Good
A late 19th century illuminated manuscript entitled First Book of Communion, produced on vellum, by an unknown illuminator. The manuscript was commissioned by one Countess Martin du Nord, and gifted to granddaughter Marie Therese de la Devansaye, as a gift for her first communion.
Each page has been richly handwritten and illuminated with illuminated initials, golden letters, and ornate initials in general, written in a 16-line format. Every single leaf is further enhanced with a different illuminated and painted border, each distinctly unique and vibrant from each other. Some of these borders have vivid flowering designs that extend into the text and are further enhanced with shading.
This manuscript has been structured into a number of sections, including the Ordinaire of the Holy Mass, Post Communion, Acts before Communion, Acts of Consecration, Vespers, and much more. There is a detailed table of contents at the end.
This volume has been beautifully bound in full brown morroco, with a metal fitted monogram to the front cover, and clasps.
One finely bound illuminated manuscript in octavo, 37 thick vellum leaves
This manuscript is in very good shape, with minor rubbing and wear to the binding, heaviest to the corners. There is very little staining throughout.
