Title: Leaf from a Latin Lectionary or Homiliary, Germany, 1175-1200. Manuscript on Parchment. Recovered from a Binding. 23 Lines of Proto-gothic Script, and a Fish Drawing
Condition: Fair

A late 12th century leaf, taken from a Latin Lectionary or Homiliary, produced in Germany, and in a late Proto-Gothic script, very closely straddling the line between that and Gothic, but still retaining some rounded Caroline characteristics. The first legible sentence is the hymn Quae infirmos omnes sanat per eius suffragia. To the verso, the chant Beatus servus quem cum venerit is also clearly legible.

There is a charming, five line initial in the shape of a fish.

This fragment was once used as binder’s waste.

This manuscript is written in a 23-line format.

One manuscript on parchment, 42.6 x 44.5 cm

This manuscript is in fair shape, with rubbing and wear to the parchment. There are a few tears to the edges, with a bit of parchment lacking. The manuscript is sharply folded, with a half page tear.
