A Mid Edo Period, mid 18th century edition of the Konkōmyōsaishōōgyō, also known as Golden Light Sutra. The full title is Suvarṇaprabhāsottamasūtrendrarājaḥ, or The King of Sutras on the Sublime Golden Radiance, and it is a Buddhist text of the Mahayana branch of Buddhism. This is a near complete set, lacking volumes two and eight.
Originally written in India in Sanskrit, it was translated several times into Chinese by Dharmakṣema and others and later translated into Tibetan and other languages.
The Sutra has become one of the most important sutras in China and Japan because of its fundamental message, which teaches that the Four Heavenly Kings protect the ruler who governs his country in the proper manner.
The sutra also expounds the vows of the goddesses Sarasvatī/Benzaiten, Śrīmahādevī, and Prithvi to protect any bhikṣu who will uphold and teach the sutra.
This edition has been dated Kanpo 2, or 1742.

These volumes are in very good shape, with rubbing and wear to the covers, heavier in certain areas, with portion losses. There are a few worm tracks throughout (mostly marginal), some staining to two of the volumes, and minor worm tracks and soiling throughout.
