A Late Edo Period, early 19th century edition of Katakiuchikojitsu Dokuyoushingo, or Revenge of the Ancients, written by Eishōsai Nagayoshi, and illustrated by Jyukusutei. This is 1, 2, 4, upper 5 volume, lacking volumes 3 and lower 5.
There are 42 full page woodblock illustrations of numerous landscapes and battles, and well as several individual figures, including one scene of a grisly beheading.
Four volumes in quarto (22.3 x 15.4 cm), 27, 23, 28, 15 leaves
These volumes are in good shape, with heavy rubbing and wear to the covers. Many of the pages are dog eared, with one corner being slightly torn. There is minor soiling and spotting throughout.
