A Mid to Late Edo Period, mid to late 18th century emakimono handscroll, featuring a series of 15 beautifully produced paintings and one unfinished piece, attributed to various members of the Kano School, with several artist seals. Each of the complete paintings is lovingly rendered with numerous hues of color, and displaying different techniques of the school, with some clear Nanga techniques. Most of the subjects are animals amongst landscape backdrops, the first painting being of two colorful tigers at a flowing riverbank. There are various paintings of birds and other wildlife, and two of various figures. The last is a large spread of numerous birds, with several soaring through the air.

The paper appears to be a fine quality, akin to torinoko paper, and is treated with mica dust, very much complimenting each painting.

The paintings have been laid down and bound in a faded brocade decorated scroll for preservation, with a wooden roller core and plain covers.

One brocade decorated emakimono (picture scroll) on fine paper, 26.3 x 631 cm full dimensions.

This emakimono is in very good shape, with some rubbing and wear to the brocade covers. There are several marginal tears to the upper and lower margins, only slightly affecting a single painting. There are minor worm tracks throughout.
