A Meiji Period, Late 19th century manuscript copy of Nishikawa Joken’s Kai Tsūshō Kō, also known as the Study of Trade with Barbarians.
The text is primarily a geographic and economic study, or contemplation, on the surrounding lands bordering Japan, such as Korea, China, and more. There are several pen drawings of foreign figures, and a map as well.
One manuscript in quarto (24.5 x 16.5 cm), 32 leaves
This manuscript is in very good shape, with some rubbing and wear to the covers, and wormholes to the outer margins of the front cover, also affecting the margins of the first few leaves, but not the text. There is scattered, light staining to a few pages.
