A Late Edo Period, Mid to late 19th century manuscript copy of the Kaei Amerika Zakki, and Amerika Raihaku Uraga Kibun, being near contemporary copies of the American Chronicle from the Kaei Era, and the famed Coming of the American Ship – the Uraga Chronicle, both retelling Commodore Perry’s expeditions to Japan.
Text begins with the following inscription: “on the arrival of the American (black) ship in the 6th month, 6th year of Kaei (July 1853).”
One manuscript in quarto (24.1 x 17.5 cm), 62 leaves
This manuscript is in very good shape, with some rubbing and wear to the covers. There is minor, scattered foxing and soiling throughout.
