An early 16th century, first Giunta edition of the second volume of Pontano’s Amorum libri duo.
There is a library stamp on the titlepage for the Pontifical Scots College of Rome. When the Jesuit order was suppressed, cultural loss no doubt followed, and their library was broken up and scattered. Many volumes with the same provenance have been located worldwide both in institutional libraries and on the market.
This volume is in a contemporary calf binding, though it has been recased or restored by a later owner.
One finely bound volume in 12mo, 187+(9) leaves
This volume is in very good shape, with minor rubbing and wear to the binding. There is very little foxing or staining throughout.
