Two mid 16th century Aldine editions of Paolo Manuzio’s celebrated commentaries on Cicero’s Epistles and Letters, sent to his intimate friend Titus Pomponius Atticus. The commentaries on the Letters to Atticus, here in second, corrected and augmented edition, were first published in 1547. Paolo includes a preface to Cardinal Ranuccio Farnese. The commentaries on the Letters to Brutus and Cicero’s brother Quintus, are in first edition, with Paolo’s preface to Alfonso Caraffa.
There is a late 16th century ownership inscription, “Jacobi Mancini Politiani ex Hetruria oriundi,” and on the title, “Ad usum matthei deciolis.”
Two works bound into one vellum volume in octavo, (4)+414; (10)+144 leaves
This volume is in very good shape, with minor rubbing and wear throughout. There is light, scattered, foxing and staining throughout, mostly towards the end.
