A Meiji Period, late 19th century manuscript sketchbook, simply entitled Gajo, or Picture Book.
As the title would entail, there are thirteen pages of some rather skillfully rendered floral gatherings, and several figures of wise figures, though one is clearly an Arhat or Luohan.
To the rear is a dated inscription for Meiji 2 in June, or 1869. It is also signed by one Nishimura, though that could refer to several Meiji Period artists.
One manuscript in quarto, 7 leaves
This manuscript is in very good shape, with minor wear and creasing to the covers. There is little to no foxing or staining throughout.
