Title: Francisci Luisini Utinensis In librum Q. Horatii Flacci De Arte Poetica Commentaries, 1554
Author: Francesco Luisini
Publisher: Venetiis, Apud Aldi filios
Condition: Very Good
A mid 16th century first Aldine edition of the last of the five formal expositions of Horace’s Ars Poetica which appeared in the short space of six years: Robertello (1548), Maggi and Grifoli (both 1550), Denores (1553), and Luisini (1554).
Like some of his forerunners, Luisini’s commentary has a considerable Aristotelian flavor; Luisini quotes extensively in the original Greek not only from Aristotle’s Poetics, but also from his Nicomachean Ethics and Rhetoric. Luisini, however, is much more of a Platonist than any of his forerunners, quoting from the Symposium, the Apology, and the Parmenides.
This volume has been rebound in modern full calf, blind-tooled in a Renaissance style.
