Title: Eikon Basilike, the Pourtraicture of His Sacred Maiestie in his Solitudes and Sufferings, 1649
Author: King Charles I; John Gauden
Publisher: Hage, Printed by Samuell Broun
Condition: Very Good

A rather early 1649 edition of the Eikon Basilike, also known as The Pourtraicture of His Sacred Majestie in His Solitudes and Sufferings, being the first of three Hague printings by Brown.

The work is a purported spiritual autobiography attributed to King Charles I of England, and was published February 9 1649, just ten days after the King was beheaded by Parliament in the aftermath of the English Civil War in 1649.

The work is prefaced with a beautiful, double paged allegorical frontispiece with King Charles depicted as a Christian Martyr.

One vellum bound volume in 24mo, (12)+318 (ie 316) pages

This volume is in very good shape, with old staining and wear to the binding, and a small portion of vellum peeling to the spine. There is some scattered soiling and staining throughout.
