An extremely scarce Dutch first edition of Moliere’s play Les Precieuses ridicules, otherwise known as The Affected Women. A one-act satire in prose, the play analyzes the witty women who engage in lively and intellectual conversation, word games, and as Moliere would put it, preciousness. It was this work that brought attention to the Parisans, the performance on stage proving successful enough to bring the patronage of Louis XIV to Moliere and his company.

On note of condition, this volume is in very good shape, with minor wear and staining to the covers, and the spine having deteriorated, causing the gatherings to move about, though still holding together. There is little to no foxing or staining throughout.
