Condition: Very Good
A Late Edo Period, early to mid 19th century woodblock printed color map of Japan, entitled Dai Nihon Kairiku Dōchū Zue, or A Map of the Great Japan Sea Roads.
In dense detail, the map details various castles and fortresses, as well as mapping out sea routes, borders, short land routes, and of course major capitals and all surrounding cities and towns. There are also crests of daimyo noted as well.
The map itself encompasses part of Ezo all the way to a part of Ryuku.
The map has been laid down and bound in a scroll for preservation, with a beautiful brocade decorated cover of flowers, and there are jikusaki (knobs) made of wood.
One printed map bound in handscroll format, roughly 29 x 431 cm. The knobs are not included as part of the measurement.
This map is in very good shape, with minimal rubbing and wear to the brocade cover. There is some rubbing and wear at the beginning, and several sharp creases throughout.
