Condition: Very Good
A Late Edo Period, mid 19th century painting album entitled Chūnshān huà nǐgǔ shí zhèng tú, or Chunshan Painting: Ten Ancient-Style Paintings. As the title would entail, the work is a rather beautiful painting album, with ten silk paintings of animals and floral gatherings. All have been painted beautifully in color, with vivid flowers, grazing chickens, a flying bird, and more.
Although the primary artist has not been identified, there is a preface of poetry before the paintings on silk, signed and attributed to Hirose Kyokuso (1807-1863), a Confucian scholar and Chinese poet of the late Edo Period, who was rather talented in calligraphy and poetry.
The paintings have been finely bound in orihon album format, with decorated, yellowish brocade fabric covers, with flowering patterns. There is a wooden box to accompany the album, preserving the contents.
One painting album in orihon format (25 x 21.2 cm), 24 leaves
This album is in very good shape, with some rubbing and wear to the covers. There is minimal foxing and soiling to the paintings
