Title: Appiano Alexandrino Delle guerre civili de Romani, 1526
Author: Appianus
Publisher: Impresso in Vinegia, Per Gregorio de Gregori
Condition: Very Good
An extremely scarce early 16th century edition of Appianus’ History of the Civil Wars of the Romans, being a rare vernacular edition printed simultaneously with the Giunta press.
The Gregori brothers began printing in Venice in the late 1470s. They mostly produced legal texts, but by the 1510s their production had moved towards liturgical printing and vernacular works of literature, in small format and in a fine Italic type.
There is an ownership inscription to the title page, and a bookplate for one Alberto Francesco Floncel pasted to the title.
Worldcat records 3 existing copies of this edition in libraries.
One finely bound volume in 12mo, 282+(2) leaves
This volume is in very good shape, with minor rubbing and wear to the binding. There is minor foxing and staining throughout, with a bit of marginal worming affecting several pages at the end.
