Title: An Amateur Japanese Sketchbook of Watercolor and Ink Wash Paintings, Circa 1890-1920. 81 Full Page Drawings of Beautiful Landscapes, Deities, Animals and Much More
Condition: Very Good
A Meiji to Taisho Period, late 19th to early 20th century manuscript sketchbook, being an amateur artist’s rather large collection of color and ink wash paintings.
There are over 80 full pages of colorful landscapes and floral gatherings, as well as numerous other figures, animals (quite a few horse paintings), and even a full suite of the Shichifukujin, or Seven Lucky Gods. Although the work is not on a masterful level or signed, the artist’s skill is still quite lovely, and is rather free spirited.
One manuscript in oblong octavo (14 x 19.5 cm), 42 leaves and 3 loosely tipped in leaves of drawings
This manuscript is in very good shape, with minor rubbing and wear to the binding. There is minor foxing and soiling throughout, mostly to the lower margins.
