A Late Edo or Meiji Period, 19th century manuscript sketchbook produced on extremely fine washi paper.
The manuscript is beautifully packed to the brim, with 55 pages of Sumi-E ink wash paintings of flowers and branches, all full-page, and with accompanying poetry.
Although the artist is unidentified, they were clearly an experienced student of the Southern School, which great attention to detail in making their free-flowing brush strokes, creating simplistic yet complex illustrations.
One manuscript in folio (26.7 x 19 cm), 28 leaves
This manuscript is in good shape, with some wear and old staining to the covers, and one of the rare corners dogeared. The lower corners are all dogeared, with creasing to the last few pages, and a bit of staining to the upper margins.
