Title: A Painting Album for Kongo-San, Circa 1880-1920. A Beautiful Silk Painting Album of Mount Kongo, with 12 Massive Double Page Silk Paintings of Craggy Landscapes
Author: Koko?
Condition: Very Good
A Meiji to Taisho Period, late 19th to early 20th century, album of silk paintings, depicting beautiful vistas and mounstainscapes of Mount Kongo and the varying region.
A mountain in the Kongō Range in the Kawachi region of Osaka Prefecture, Kansai, Japan, it is near Mount Yamato Katsuragi. Each painting is beautifully rendered in impeccable detailing, and all are in bright, full color, being done in a Southern School style, and especially notable with all the distinct, bold, craggy rocks
There are 12 double paged views, all produced in breathtaking color and detail, and very bright choice of hues. There are also two pages of calligraphy at the beginning.
The paintings have been signed (古香), or Koko, of which I can find little on the author.
The paintings have been finely bound in album format, with decorated, gold brocade covers, and flowering swirls and phoenixes. There is a damaged slipcase to accompany it.
One silk painting album in orihon format (30.7 x 24 cm), 30 leaves
This album is in very good shape, with very light wear to the cover corners and edges. There is very little staining and foxing throughout.
