Author: Ri-Gyoto or Li Xiaodong(?); Okamoto Koseki
Condition: Very Good
A beautiful, Late Edo to Early Meiji Period, 19th century album of ink and wash paintings by one Ri-Gyoto or Li Xiaodong, an unknown artist of the Southern School, containing 20 double paged landscapes with wonderful shading techniques and striking detail.
There is a calligraphic forward to the painting by Okamoto Koseki (1812-1898), chief retainer of the Hikone domain during the late Edo period and a Chinese poet. During the restoration of imperial rule, the domain lost its leadership to lower-ranking samurai such as Tani Tetsuomi and Daito Yoshitetsu , who placed importance on an alliance with Satsuma and Choshu. His poetry collection is titled "Kousekisaishu."
