Title: A Nanga Sketchbook, 1830. Twenty Heavily Detailed Pages of Ink Landscapes and Craggy Mountains
Author: Takahashi
Condition: Very Good
A Late Edo Period, early 19th century manuscript sketchbook, being a literati artist’s selection of ink drawings.
There are 20 pages of some beautiful coastal landscapes, with numerous, craggy cliffscapes and watery scenery, and many of the regions have been noted in red ink.
The manuscript has been signed by one Takahashi, the rest of the name being rather difficult to read, and is dated Bunsei 13, or 1830. Although his identify is not fully recognized, the illustrations are very clearly in the style of the Southern School of Chinese painting.
One manuscript in quarto (24.7 x 17.4 cm), 9 leaves and 1 tipped in leaf
This manuscript is in very good shape, with some soiling and wear to the covers. There is some soiling throughout, and some staining to the lower margins.
