A set of four Muromachi Period, 14th to 16th century tanzaku strips of waka poetry, dating from the late 14th to 16th century.
The tanzaku strips have been beautifully decorated, the flowing calligraphy written against brownish-gold paper, cloudy interior decorations, and golden trees, clouds, a bird, and gold sprays painted in the background to accentuate the text.
Four decorated tanzaku strips on paper, smallest being 32.7 x 5.3 cm and largest being 34.5 x 5.5 cm
These manuscripts are in good shape, with some wear and staining to the paper, and one strip with a large worm track nearly tearing it in half.
