Author:
Rennyo
Condition: Very Good

A Mid to Late Edo Period, 18th to 19th century edition of the Gobunshō, being the collected letters of Rennyo, critical to Jodo Shinshu liturgy.

Also known as the Eighth Patriarch of the Hongan-ji Temple of the Jōdo Shinshū sect of Buddhism, and descendant of founder Shinran, Rennyo was able to unite most of the Jodo Shinsu sect factions under the Honganji-ji during the Onin War’s toll on the people. He reformed their existing liturgy and practices, and broadened support amongst various classes of society, with his efforts ultimately making Jodo Shinshu the great and most influential Buddhist sext in Japan of its era.
