Title: Tsuru Dō Kuge Fukuju Gasan (Kugyou Tsurudo's Paintings of Happiness and Longevity), Circa 1800-1850. A Small Poetry Painting and Calligraphy, Beautifully Bound
Condition: Very Good
A Late Edo Period, early to mid 19th century handscroll, entitled Tsuru Dō Kuge Fukuju Gasan, or Kugyou Tsurudo's Paintings of Happiness and Longevity. The piece itself appears to be a small painting and two large calligraphic characters.
I do not recognize the name of the artist, and there is no recognizable artist seal or signature inside.
The calligraphy and painting has been laid down and bound in a scroll for preservation, with a beautiful brocade decorated cover of blue and grey, and there are jikusaki (knobs) made of glass or plastic.
One brocade bound handscroll of calligraphy on paper, roughly 38.5 x 95 cm, The knobs are not included as part of the measurement.
This handscroll is in very good shape, with minimal rubbing and wear to the brocade fabric. There is some old creasing to the calligraphy and painting, and two very small, repaired tears at the end.
