An early French illuminated manuscript from the late 17th to early 18th century manuscript, entitled Prieres Pour la Confession et Pour la Communion, or translated, Prayers for Confession and Communion.
The manuscript is written in a late Antiqua script, with countless alternating initials of red and blue. There are illuminated opening and closing vignettes, and six grand illuminated initials, richly decorated with gold leaf.
There are several early ownership inscriptions, the oldest being rather difficult to discern, and two others reading “This book belongs to Madame Adelaïde Camille Herbin de Paris”, and “This book was given to me by my grandmother (born in 1747)”, in French.
One finely bound illuminated manuscript in 18mo, 32 leaves on parchment and later paper blanks at the beginning and end
This manuscript is in very good shape, with some rubbing and wear to the binding, heavier to the corners and spine. There is some soiling and staining to the first few and last leaves, with some text faded. There is minor soiling throughout, with minor text fading.
