A late 17th century edition of Tulp’s Medical Observations, containing 20 beautiful engravings of medical plates, a portrait by L. Visscher, and a frontispiece. There are early descriptions of migraines and the impact of smoking tobacco on the lungs, as well as illustrations of spinal bifida, conjoined twins, an orangutang, and swordfish.

This volume is in very good shape, with rubbing and wear to the binding, and splitting to the hinges. There is foxing and soiling throughout.
