Title: Momotaro and Oni in Procession with Treasures, Circa 1850-1868. An Emakimono Handscroll Depicting a Triumphant Peach Boy, Copied after Hokusai’s Example
Author: After Katsushika Hokusai; Unknown Copyist
Condition: Very Good

A Late Edo Period, mid 19th century emakimono, or picture handscroll, depicting the final scene from the Tale of Momotaro, depicting the titular character being carried in a palanquin by the demonic Oni he defeated earlier in his journey, and a parade of other demonic figures leading a parade alongside, with treasure in tow.

This example appears to be copied after an example attributed to Katsushika Hokusai, the Memorial Art Gallery owning the original signed example.

The paintings have been laid down and bound in a scroll for preservation, with a beautiful brocade decorated cover, and there are jikusaki (knobs).

One brocade bound emakimono (picture scroll) on paper, roughly 23 x 190 cm, The knobs are not included as part of the measurement.

This handscroll is in very good shape, with minimal rubbing and wear to the brocade fabric. There is some soiling and creasing to the handscroll.
