A late 15th century edition of Marchesinus’ Mammotrectus super Bibliam, being the Second Venetian edition (First Venice Edition Printed 1476). First printed in 1470 by Schoeffer, the Mammotrectus is a guide to understanding the texts of the Bible, for use of late medieval preachers: it explains words from the Bible and other religious texts both etymologically and grammatically, their pronunciation and morphology, and significance.
This volume is beautifully rubricated throughout, with some 4 to 7-line and many 3-line initials in red.
The first two leaves are lacking, being the title and first leaf of the index.
One vellum bound volume in small quarto, 258 of 260 leaves
This volume is in good shape, with minor rubbing and old staining to the binding. Parts of the text block are loosening a bit from the binding, with notable gaps visible at the end, and some of the leaves at the beginning and end have gutter restorations throughout, with the last leaf being partially restored. There is minor foxing and staining scattered throughout, heaviest to the first and last leaves.
