A leaf from an illuminated Book of Hours, being a calendar leaf for the Months of January to April, written in Latin, and produced in France.
This leaf is written in a double column 32 to 33-line format, in red and blue ink in a gothic script, with four finely illuminated initial ‘KLs’, and numerous smaller initials. This calendar leaf has been brightly illuminated, with a full border of flowering tendrils against gold.
Most significantly, this leaf bears four highly decorated and nicely detailed miniatures to the borders, displaying the Labors of the Months and various scenes. Scenes include Warming Oneself, Feasting, Pruning, and Gathering Flowers in a Garden.
One illuminated manuscript on parchment, 16 x 10.9 cm
This manuscript is in very good shape, with little to no staining to the leaf. The leaf has been trimmed sharply, with some illumination loss to the borders, with the miniatures unaffected. The leaf is somewhat rippled with age.
