Title: Encheiridium Anatomicum et Pathologicum, 1658. A Extremely Rare Copy of Roilan’s Famed Textbook on Systematic Explanations and Definitions of Basic and Morbid Anatomy. From the Medical Library of Dr. Jean Manet
Author: Jean Riolan
Publisher: Parisiis, Apud Casparum Meturas
Condition: Good
An extremely rare, mid 17th century edition of Riolan’s Anatomical and Pathological Encheiridium, in which, from the natural constitution of the parts, the departure from the natural state is demonstrated.
A textbook that contains systematic explanations and definitions of basic and morbid anatomy, Riolan’s work was made more notable since its rejection of some of William Harvey's ideas on blood circulation prompted Harvey to reply with his Exercitationes duae anatomicae de circulatione sanguinis ad Joannem Riolanum (1649), the only published answer he ever issued to criticisms of De motu cordis.
There is a rather extensive note enclosed from one Dr. Jean Manet, whose staggering medical library was sold publicly in recent years, among which included a first edition Vesalius and more.
USTC records 3 existing copies of this edition in libraries.
One finely bound volume in small quarto, (32)+610+(64) pages
