Title: Confessionale sive Interrogatorium. Interrogationes faciende infirmo morienti. Hermannus de Schildesche, 1482
Author: Bartholomaeus de Chaimis; Anselm of Canterbury
Publisher: Nuremberg, Konrad Zeninger
Condition: Fair
A late 15th century edition of the Confessionale of Bartholomaeus de Chaimis, a popular Franciscan confessional text.
A Milanese Franciscan, de Chaimis lists not just sins in general, but specific questions relating to the sins of different people, whether they are children, married couples, priests, merchants, students, craftsmen, farmers, butchers or tavern keepers. The Interrogationes, questions to ask the dying, are adapted from the Admonitio Morienti of Anselm of Canterbury. This was a very popular work, circulating in both print and manuscript.
The first four unnumbered leaves, and the final leaves CXIII-CXX with the additional Speculum Sacerdotum of Hermannus de Schildesche, is lacking. It should be noted that this work was not issued with a title page. The main text and Interrogationes are textually complete, with the colophon also intact at the end.
One vellum bound volume in small quarto, 112 of 124 leaves
This volume is in fair shape, the text block mostly detached from the binding at the front, and the spine being damaged. There is very little foxing or staining throughout.
