Title: An Original Verse Paraphrase of the Psalms of David, into French Odes, 1725. Psalms 1-75, and Various Canticles. Handwritten Manuscript on Paper. A French Manuscript of a Work Rarely Seen on the Market in Handwritten Form
Author: M. Girard, Parish Priest of Bémécourt
Condition: Good
An extremely rare, early 18th century manuscript edition of the Psalms of David, being an original verse paraphrase, translated into French Odes, and handwritten by one M. Girard, a Parish Priest of Bémécourt, who was perhaps influenced by Samuel Woodford’s important edition of the Paraphrase.
The manuscript contains Psalms 1-75, and various Canticles at the end.
The manuscript is written in a fine cursive script, with ornate initials.
Manuscript editions of the Psalms are rare, with very little record of copies sold, even those from the 18th century.
One finely bound manuscript in folio, 157 leaves
This manuscript is in good shape, with some rubbing and wear to the binding, with part of the front board dented slightly. The page edges are worn with age. The final leaf has been reinforced with thicker stock paper to the rear. There is some staining throughout, heavier to the margins.
