Title: Les Mois ou L'eur Origine, Circa 1819. Miniature Book with Silk Designs to the Covers and Slipcase. 12 Hand Colored Engravings
Publisher: Paris, Chez Le Fuel
Condition: Very Good
An extremely scarce early 19th century edition of the Months, or their Origins.
There are 12 hand-colored engravings, one for each month, and a folding calendar as well.
This volume has been bound in a decorated and ornate cartonnage binding of the period, with gilt decorating the edges. More significantly, the volume has been bound with silk designs pasted to the covers and spine, displaying a fair maiden and cherub to the center, and angels blowing their trumpets, among other images.
The volume also comes in a slipcase, similarly decorated with silk to the covers and spine, displaying an angel.
Worldcat records no existing copies of this edition in libraries.
This volume bears the provenance of Felix Meunie, author of a "Bibliography of some illustrated almanacs of the 18th and 19th centuries, 1765 to 1800". It also bears an ownership inscription for one Madame Montoud, dated April 7, 1855.
One extravagantly decorated volume with slipcase in 32mo (7.75 x 12 cm), 180 pages plus 12 hand colored, unnumbered plated
This volume is in very good shape, with very little rubbing or wear to the binding. There is some foxing throughout. The slipcase is somewhat faded and worn with age.
