Title: A Nanga Sketchbook, Circa 1870-1900. Sixteen Double Pages of Numerous Southern School Ink Landscapes, Floral Gatherings, and Poetical Calligraphy
Author: Likely Artist of the Southern School
Condition: Very Good
A Meiji Period, late 19th century manuscript sketchbook, being a beautiful selection of meticulous ink sketches and poetical Chinese calligraphy.
There are numerous large landscapes and floral gatherings, all done in the Southern School style, likely being copied from previous compositions, and calligraphy of varying styles, though mostly in a formal style.
Although the sketchbook is unsigned, it’s clear from the copied Chinese calligraphy and landscapes that the artist was a student of the Southern School of Chinese painting.
