Title: A Compiled Painting Album of Different Artists, Circa 1900-1950, with 44 Pages of Ink Wash and Color Paintings, and Calligraphy
Author: Various
Condition: Very Good
A Meiji to Early Showa Period, 20th century painting and calligraphy album, being a compilation by a number of artists and calligraphers, though they do not appear to be particularly well-known artists, since I can’t find too much background information on them. The paintings display different subjects (my favorite being of two men playing Go), including landscapes, various objects, animals, figures, and more. Altogether there are 44 pages of paintings and calligraphy, and two additional pages of printed monochrome paintings added, though I’m not sure why.
Tipped in at the end is a rather extensive list of all of the participating artists in pencil.
The paintings have been finely bound in orihon album format, with decorated, dark yellow brocade fabric covers, with clouds as well.
One painting album in orihon format (18.3 x 13.5 cm), 48 leaves
This manuscript is in very good shape, with minimal rubbing or wear to the binding. There is scattered foxing and occasional spotting throughout.
