A Mid to Late Edo Period, 18th to 19th century selection of nine tanzaku strips of waka poetry, dating from the mid 18th to 19th century.

This selection represents the following poets:

Kagawa Kagemoto (August 29, 1745 (September 24, 1745) - September 28, 1821 (October 23, 1821)) was a poet in the mid-Edo period. His biological father was Matsuda Tsushima in Kyoto, Yamashiro Province. His foster father was Kagawa Kagehira. His adopted sons were Kagawa Kageki, Kagawa Kagekin, and Kagawa Kagetsugu. He was commonly known by many names such as Shunzo and Fuse. His pen name was Ochu. His Buddhist name was Jyoa. He was adopted by Kagawa Kagehira and succeeded the 4th Baigetsudo.

Kagawa Kagetsugu (1792-1866) was a poet from the late Edo period. His first name was Keirei , and he was commonly known as Mokkou and Seizaburo. He was the fifth head of Baigetsudo. He was adopted by the previous head of Baigetsudo, Kagawa Kagegara (Kagawa Kochu). He was born in Kyoto in 1792 as a member of the Fushida Family. As he grew older, he became a disciple of Kagawa Kagegara. Kagawa Kagegara was distrustful of the talent of his adopted son, Kageki, so he had Kageki establish a separate school and adopted Kagetsugu. His family collection of poems includes "Zankoshu."

Kagawa Kagetsune (1823-1865) A poet in the late Edo period. Born March 21, 1823. Son of Kagawa Kageki. Served the noble Tokudaiji family. Succeeded in the Keien school founded by his father. He was also an excellent calligrapher. He passed away on November 16, 1865. He was 43 years old. His first name was Keishu. He was commonly known as Shikibu. His pen names were Keien and Todotei. His family anthology is the "Keicho Ou Kashu."

Each tanzaku strip has been colorfully decorated, six of them being done in the same manner, with two ink splotches of blue and purple against the flowing calligraphy, and the other three with beautiful sprays of gold.

Nine decorated tanzaku strips on paper, smallest being 36.2 x 5.7 cm and largest being 36.4 x 6 cm

These manuscripts are in very good shape, with some wear and curling to the six thinner tanzaku strips, and very little wear or staining to the other three.
