Also known as the “rainmaking youth,” he is said to be either a manifestation of the Shinto goddess Amaterasu or the Buddha Dainichi Nyorai. Supposedly this is the form that Amaterasu Omikami took when she was born in Hyuga. Most portraits of Uhō Dōji usually depict him with a several tiered pagoda upon his head.
